Since I’m not invested in ANY romantic pairings in the A Song of Ice and Fire series (or really any romantic pairings ever) I have not given Jaime’s “shipping” situation much thought.
But, after a conversation yesterday it got me to thinking about how differently the show has portrayed their “romance”. You can see that Jaime loves Cersei but you can also see more clearly that Cersei loved Jaime. I assume it’s because we get to see more of Cersei from an “unbiased” POV in the show (something we did not get during that time). If anything both of them are kinda eh about the relationship as a romantic one. If anything the show twins both craved support so badly that they think they are “in love” when it really is just normal family love (something they don’t understand). It didn’t help that they decided to throw sex in the mix. Show Tywin may be easier to understand but, he is just as horrible. I mean his wife died and he told his 4 year old daughter not to bother praying because life sucks and looking for emotional support is worthless. Jaime and Tyrion act like whipped dogs around him and he practically told Arya that he’s been trying to put the fire in Cersei out for years. Of course the Twins were looking at each other for emotional support they thought each other was all they had. P.S. as much as I dislike Tyrion I do feel for him in this respect. All he had was Jaime once in a while and that was completely crushed by 1 lie. I have to wonder if show Cersei lost her first baby and had a few miscarriages and then finally had a healthy baby with Jaime. Therefore, she assumed that she could only have healthy children with her brother and acted accordingly. Now Jaime has been portrayed as “worse” in the show. Like he didn’t show a glimpse of remorse for throwing Bran out the window (well maybe a little after Cat left) and he brained his cousin.
No I’m not woobifying Cersei and villifying Jaime. I just think the show is trying to set-up a greater contrast. Something we didn’t get in the books do to factors and POV. When we get Jaime’s POV he has just met Brianne. A woman who is a true Knight everything he wanted to be. He loses his hand. The only thing he thinks makes him worthwhile. He doesn’t know what to do with himself and Brianne is a true friend. Something he’s never had before and it is changing his attitudes a bit. We also get flashbacks to what was going on when he was Kingsguard which helps us sympathize. Brianne wakes up Jaime’s inner Sansa (something he buried deep inside after he killed the mad king) and it shines through. When we get Cersei’s POV her son has been murdered, she is losing control of the city, the brother she hates has murdered her only surviving parent and vanished (in her mind he killed the first one too), she is a hot head to begin with, her loving twin shows up all different, a girl who she did her best to “protect” has run off and also vanished, she doesn’t know what’s going on, AND now her little loving son is testing his limits. Of course, she’s acting like a lunatic. She was never subtle to begin with now she’s completely off the rails and willing to do ANYTHING to keep some control.
I give Martin a hard time a lot but, you can’t fault his writing. It always makes sense.
Anyway, I think the show was trying to make Cersei softer and Jaime harder so when we get the switch we can see the progression better. Therefore, more people can sympathize with BOTH instead of just one. That’s my thoughts anyway.
In short, ehh no ships unless they are non-romantic pairings.
We shared a womb.
(this is my first attempt at anything in Photoshop; I hope it’s decent.)
Where you been hiding lately, where you been hiding from the news?
Cause we’ve been fighting lately, we’ve been fighting with the wolves.

(which is not this. I tried)Happy 23rd birthday!
She was sitting in front of the fireplace. The red and bright flames made her golden hair seemed to truly be the metal people said it was made of. She was all blood and porcelain. Gold and wildfire. All the colors in her seemed enhaced by the light of the fire. She was everything the house Lannister had ever been. Her hands were holding a cup full of wine. She hadn’t even sipped it. Her eyes stared at the flames as if they were able to tell her the future… or maybe show her the past.
Outside, it was dark, and it was starting to get cold.

“jaime took his first steps today. he walked towards cersei”
#the journals of Joanna Lannister
one time Sho made up that Joanna scrapbooked and there were all of these entries on Cersei’s first word and Jaime’s first steps and the first time a tooth fell out and locks of their hair in between the pages
and a ripped out page venting about the first time the twins had sexand there was this page for THE NEW BABY
and then everything after that was blank
